The Friends of Canyon Camp

You make a difference in the experiences young people have in the great outdoors when you give to Canyon Camp.   The mission of the Friends of Canyon Camp (FOCC) is to protect and support youth enrichment at Canyon Camp.   The FOCC coordinates service days, builds Camp's social network, and manages the Stewards of Canyon Camp annual giving fund for program and capital needs.

Your gifts of any kind are appreciated- thank you!

Today, we focus on two main priorities for giving:

The Spirit Scholarship Fund

The Stewards of Canyon Camp

Whether you support The Spirit Scholarship Fund or make a gift toward the Stewards Initiatives (or both!), know that you are making an impact on the countless young people who will experience the Spirit of Canyon Camp.

The Friends of Canyon Camp is an independent 501(c)(3) separate to the BSA

The Spirit Scholarship Fund

Since 1936, the walls of the canyon have served as the summer home for hundreds of Scouts who have served as members of the Canyon Camp Staff. All who have served on Staff have experienced the special spirit that abides at camp.

Spirit Scholarships are intended to recognize those staff members who most unselfishly have shared their experience, time and skills to make the summer a positive experience for the Scouts, Scouters and Staff members with whom they've worked. In essence - a recipient is recognized for having and for sharing with others, the Spirit of Canyon Camp

The Spirit Scholarship Fund has supported Camp Staff Members educational journey since 1992.  Originating as an annually funded initiative, the Spirit Scholarship Fund became an endowment through the visionary leadership of Mike Beeth.  Foregoing traditional wedding gifts, Mike and Theresa Beeth requested their guests consider an endowment gift to the Spirit Fund.  This endowment is now valued at more than $125,000.  Your gift today will give back to the Spirit of Canyon Camp in perpetuity.

Gifts made to the Friends of Canyon Camp for The Spirit Scholarship Fund will pass through to the Blackhawk Area Council to invest in the Promise Endowment Fund.

The Stewards initiative has secured more than $80,000 since 2020 that have been put to immediate, highest priority need use for program and capital needs at Canyon Camp.  These efforts come alongside the many decades of service by organizations like the Monroe Kiwanis Club as well as the hundreds of individuals who have engaged philanthropically since origin of camp through the founding gift from the Koenig family of Freeport to begin Camp as we know it today.

The Impact of Gifts

Since 2015, more than $500,000 has been given to Canyon Camp.  These gifts come from more than 200 friends and alumni who have made a commitment to the needs of today, tomorrow, and the next 85 years.  Gifts range in size from $10 to $10,000 and beyond.  All philanthropy directly impacts the needs of camp.

For more than two three decades, the Spirit Endowment Fund has provided educational opportunities for experienced staff members.  More than $60,000 has been awarded through the  to offset higher education expenses.  Concurrently, the endowment has grown to a nearly funded status of $150,00.  This giving is transformational and inspiring.

In 2020, the Stewards Initiative launched providing an annual conduit for supporters to give directly to program and capital needs.   100% of the funds are spent each year on priority projects.  Click here for the 2020-2021 Stewards Update to learn more about what was accomplished in its inaugural year.

In 2021, Canyon Camp received its largest ever one time gift.  This contribution is in motion to bring a much needed maintenance building to fruition, begin refurbishment of the decades old shower house to meet the needs of the youth today, and more.  Canyon Camp holds true to its traditional roots while being transformed by this visionary investment.

The future of Canyon Camp is bright due to friends and alumni like you who give back.  Most importantly, the outdoor adventures provided to young people in our communities is strengthened through your support.  Thank you!
